In the Shroud of the Martyr is a fabric installation that shows the faces of 52 martyrs who were killed in Pakistan by successive military regimes and extrajudicial killings even during times of democracy, from Zia-ul-Haq’s take over in 1977 to Pervez Musharaf’s resignation as president in 2007. The images are printed onto cotton lawn, a fabric most often used to cover dead bodies in Muslim burial customs, their names are printed behind their faces, as well as the years of their martyrdom. Thin red thread connects the various panels together.
